Generally speaking, from the objective reviews I've came across, the movie isn't as bad as the trailers make out but it's nothing special either. I wouldn't go as far as to call all the positive reviews as shills but some clearly are scoring it higher than it probably deserves.

I've seen the movie. The review is a sham, a massive shill. It's not as bad as people might say it is but it's definitely not a good movie. It's average at best, Kate Mckinnon is awesome and amazing and saves the entire film from being a horrible cesspit. Melissa Mccarthy and Kristin Wigg are horrible. 50% of their dialogue is technobabble and the other 50% is ill conceived slapstick. Leslie Jones is wasted in the role and barely given anything to do. She is an afterthought and doesn't look or act like she belongs. Chris Hemsworth is okish but is also comedically stupid which doesn't fit into the serious tone they're trying to set. The main villain hates everyone and wants to destroy the world because everyone calls him weird. Every male figure in the movie is an idiot. Andy Garcia is wasted in his role. They kill off Bill Murray with no consequence. There's a lot of weird cameos. Also the ad placement is diabolical and ridiculously obvious. The science doesn't make sense especially since they keep bringing it up. They initially capture ghosts and then can suddenly murder them by the end of the movie. There are ghost grenades (facepalm). It's a 2/5 movie at best and that score is after I've calmed down from all the thing this movie pisses me off about. Try not to think about the originals, it helps.

Also the second movie is underrated. I quite liked it, not as good but definitely enjoyable.

What did people have against the second movie? Been a while since I've seen it but I remember Peter MacNicol being absolutely amazing in it.
