AVClub: I’m going to say right off the bat that I don’t know much about how real life custody battles work. But that’s okay because I’m not sure Grey’s Anatomy does either. What we see unfold tonight is more like an oddly detailed interrogation of the inner workings of Grey Sloan Memorial hospital than it is an exploration of what’s best for Sofia Robbin Sloan Torres. But verisimilitude is the least of “Mama Tried”’s problems. The episode’s biggest flaw is that it’s built on a foundation of sand. And when you poke at that foundation even a little bit, the whole thing starts to crumble.
