Paul McCartney Joins ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales’

Next year, the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise will return to cinemas after a six-year absence. Plot details are under wraps for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, but Deadline is reporting that they’ve decided to do some additional shooting to add Paul McCartney to the cast.

There are currently no details on McCartney’s character (I assume he’s playing a pirate; why anyone with his stature would sign on to this movie and not play a pirate would be bizarre) or how he figures into the plot, but it could make for a nice addition assuming that they play it right. Keith Richards as Jack Sparrow’s father in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End was a nice little bit, so it should be interesting to see what directors Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg have planned in the “extra big set piece scene” that is built around McCartney.

I just wonder why. Like Keith Richards made sense because Johnny Depp always said he based Jack Sparrow on Richards, but this seems a little pointless.
