Under normal circumstances, celebrity interviews are a social contract: a delicate balance of competing requirements, unspoken give and take. The interviewer is after five to ten minutes of charming, witty, Hollywood magic to dazzle their audience: one of the beautiful people to descend from the silver screen and bewitch all before them. The movie star, on the other hand, needs his or her film to have sufficient plugging time in amongst all the amusing anecdotes and brittle smiles to ensure that the television or radio audience know what it’s about and when it’s out.
