I can't help but think there is no way he can beat Ledger. Sure he'll be a different kind of Joker but he will always live in the shadow of Heath.

Doesn't sound so bad lol. Heath was amazing and I wouldn't mind being second best to him. I'm actually watching The Dark Knight right now and you almost forget how amazing he was in it! Anyways, I won't go into Suicide Squad comparing them. I'll judge Leto purely by his own work. And no someone else's. I lived Nicholson's Joker aswell but have never compared him to Ledger, they are just too different.

True Nicholson and Ledger are different but there's no arguing that Ledger is definitely the better Joker. He owns that role so much it's insane.

Agreed! Ledger was amazing and definitley my favorite of the bunch so far! What I'm getting at is, so long as Leto puts on a show I'll be happy. Now that I think of it there hasn't ever been a bad Joker per se. Even that kid from Gotham is pretty amazing! So I doubt we'll start here. Especially considering Leto's acting prowess.

Leto's such an obsessive actor that I'd sure bet on him being wholly devoted to the role, but I'm not sure about Ayer's goth-punk direction with him, though. And how far is he willing to go with torture in this universe? If they do pull too many PG-13 restraints with this, it could really sell the Dark Knight Returns-inspired universe of Snyder's short.

He'll go as far as PG-13 lets him go with torture. No way in hell this goes R-rated. Remember Watchmen?

Everything were hearing in terms of Leto's attitude to the role is really whetting my appetite for the film. It's a different type of Joker, clearly to Ledger's Joker so maybe not fair to compare. But I can't wait to see him in action.
