‘The Revenant’ Gets R Rating for “Strong Frontier Combat and Violence

Collider:
If you like your frontier films extra gory, get ready for The Revenant. Reigning Best Director Oscar winner and Birdman helmer Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s upcoming frontier-set drama has been rated R by the MPAA, and the official reasoning is as follows (per Box Office Mojo):

Strong frontier combat and violence including gory images, a sexual assault, language and brief nudity.

Yep, “strong frontier combat and violence” is officially a ratings reasoning now. Granted, we pretty much knew The Revenant was going to be intense given the lengths to which Iñárritu went to capture the realism of the story. Based on true events, the film takes place in the early 19th century and stars Leonardo DiCaprio as hunter Hugh Glass, who is left for dead by his compatriots following a (very graphic, apparently) bear mauling. He subsequently awakens and sets out for revenge, with Tom Hardy and Domhnall Gleeson filling the roles of the men who must come face to face with Glass’ wrath.

I love Leo when he does serious movies but I'm not sure about this one yet.

RetrospectRealm3135d ago

Same. I don't know why but I'm still torn on it.

I've seen some teaser trailers and they don't give much yet so I'm waiting for more.

@alycakes: I think the trailer for the Revenant is good precisely because it doesn't reveal too much of the film's plot.

These facts may help in considering whether to see the film or not:
The budget of the film is 150 million dollars. The film is directed by the Oscar winning Alejandro Iñárritu. The cinematography is by two time Oscar winner Emmanuel Lubezki. The story is based on an acclaimed novel, inspired by true events. The cast comprises of A-list stars.

Wow, pretty much that. Was gonna say something along those lines but I'm glad you said it first. Agreed, I'm sold on this already. It shows just enough to peak my interest.

Wow, this movie not only looks gorgeous with it's breath taking cinematography but it looks to be a very good story too.

I just saw the real trailer and I can see what everyone is talking about. It's going to be great.

Rated R movies tend to be great so I'll be looking forward to this

I guess I didn't see the right trailer. I will look it up
