A Knee-Jerk Reaction to the Assassin's Creed Movie News

EB:

"I’m a fan of the Assassin’s Creed franchise. Aside from one non-mainline game and the DLC content, I’ve played every game to date, even now forcing myself through the buggery of Unity because I refuse to not continue the story I’m so entrenched in. I’ve come this far, so why stop now, right?
Earlier today, news broke regarding the first image and the synopsis of the AC film due out late next year."

"Hollywood has decided that taking one story that has worked and, instead of sticking close to script, make changes that may anger fans and alienate the AC gamers"

Couldn't have said it better myself

It seems like they are restructuring the plot found in the first game. Callum is basically Desmond while Aguilar will play the Altair role.

To defend it they've said it's part of the overall universe but it I think it's going to end up coming across like a retelling of Desmonds story.

I don't see why they didn't do Desmond and the story in the first game, they are great and could easily be condensed to a film as most of the Templars you kill are repetitive missions. Show him killing two of them then do a montage to speed things up.

Honestly, the only thing i see angering AC fans are more AC games, lol

The synopsis sounds okay to me. I think it sounds like it might be good.

Shouldn't surprise us that Hollywood is meddling with a video game narrative. Maybe one day someone will get it right out there, but here's to hoping this flick isn't a complete POS.

I wish they'd just follow the game's script. It's already a cinematic experience of sorts as it is!

Why be upset about them messing with the game canon when they couldn't be faithful to it anyway? Not in the timeframe of two hours, at the very least. I

t makes sense to adapt the best parts of the games within the confines of new characters that can translate onto the silver screen better than the star of a 60+ hour story that would go over new converts' heads and anger gamers far more. And who ever loved Desmond as a character anyway?

It's doable. Like I said above most of AC was repetitive...condense it down and it would work.

People are upset because Hollywood always do this and the video game always fails.

It's just one cycle with no end in sight

It's doable, but not preferable, especially when you have any big-hitters like Fassbender that show any interest in projects like this whatsoever. One of Hollywood's greater failings with game movies is that it tries to adapt game narratives too literally and don't account for the natural dips and pauses where gameplay would be.

That's why it's rather smart (in theory) to extend the movie beyond the scope of the games and into the larger universe. If the movie should exist at all, then why not make the franchise bigger than smaller? And if it shouldn't exist at all, then that's why you have the games to play, such as they are.

I of course can't speak on the quality of the film's scripting, the direction, or the acting. But heaven forbid that game movies should have ambition and grow their source material than stifle it. We don't know how what kind of character Callum could grow into apart from Desmond, after all. And Assassin's Creed's present-day segments were always skeletons of a story anyhow

I'm not sure i understand , arent they just adding another set of assassins , when all of them were never accounted for ?

And isnt it essentially better than ruining existing ones , while potentially adding more to the mythos ?
