Jaws at 40: The Worlds With and Without the Great White - Gambitcon

Gambitcon - The irony, of course, is that Jaws created the Summer Blockbuster, and for better or worse, the world of film would be drastically different without it. And while it’s uncertain whether it would be the box office juggernaut it was, the movie itself still works. Watching it again for this review, it’s fantastic how just about all of it still works. While the Shark itself does show its age a bit, the story is simple but effective, the characters are interesting and engaging, the cinematography still pops, the editing is brilliant and John Williams’ score still sends chills down the spine. While most of the offspring of films this shark tale produced have left a lot to be desired, Jaws remains a film that is nearly perfect after all this time and has left an indelible mark on the world of film and pop culture.
