Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) Review - Gambitcon

The film is addressing the fact that humans can be reduced to nothing more but an object, an means to an end, a tool. Max gets reduced to a blood bag used for a blood transfusion, women are used for milking and breeding. The rest of the population work as slaves to Joe, they are just cogs in the machine keeping Joe alive. From time to time he rewards with a supply of water. Ultimately the film is about standing up against oppression and attempting to set things right. No one is anybody’s property.

This actually might be surprising for many people who are not familiar with Miller’s work. All his films feature some sort of social commentary and subtly putting these messages into an action film is simply a stroke of a genius, which elevates the action genre to new heights.

Mad Max: Fury Road is one of those films, where you leave your jaw by the door of the cinema and pick it up after the film is over. If you need to get your dose of adrenaline and you aren’t exactly into bungee jumping then this is the film for you. This film changes everything about the way you look at films and not just action ones, all genres. Redefining every story structure, exposition techniques, action sequences, characters’ introductions, gender roles – just simply everything about this film is an feat to admire. Long Live Miller!
