"I'm Thinking of You All the While" picked up from the harrowing moments last week when, at Jo and Alaric's wedding Kai returned from 1903 to kill his sister and everyone else from his former coven who was at the wedding. Trying to inflict as much pain on Bonnie as possible for banishing him in the first place, he also put a "sleeping spell" on Elena that linked her life with Bonnie's. So long as the witch was alive, a now-human Elena would remain asleep. Of course Kai solidified the magical bond by killing himself (only to be resurrected as a vampire-witch thanks to Lily's blood). Meanwhile, the entire Gemini Coven kicked the bucket in return.
