There are many adjectives one could use to describe The Big Bang Theory, but "depressing" isn't generally one of them. This is a pretty lighthearted show, and only rarely does interpersonal drama carry over from one episode to the next. So it's always a bit of an adjustment when the show veers heavily into dramatic territory like it did tonight. On the other hand, there's been a distinct lack of drama or momentum when it comes to most of the core relationships this season. Better the writers go all-out in the finale rather than simply coast to the finish line.
