CE: As is customary in Hollywood, it's often desirable to put a fresh coat of paint on an old classic. Take, for instance, Thomas Hardy's 1874 novel, "Far from the Madding Crowd." Most memorably brought to the screen in director John Schlesinger's 1967 film, its latest incarnation stars Carey Mulligan, who plays the headstrong Bathsheba Everdene, a young heiress who finds herself the object of desire for three very different suitors — noble shepherd Gabriel Oak (Matthias Schoenaerts), wealthy landowner William Boldwood (Michael Sheen) and bad boy Sergeant Frank Troy (Tom Sturridge). Director Thomas Vinterberg and screenwriter David Nicholls distill the essence of Hardy's novel down to a relatively spry two-hour runtime, and the result is easy to fall in love with. With lush visuals, a stately score and a cast worth praising, this 2015 edition of Far from the Madding Crowd is quite the enthralling moviegoing experience. Even Thomas Hardy himself would be proud.
Testament The Story of Moses Review: The series depicts Moses' journey from an outcast and murderer to a prophet and liberator of the Hebrews. It interweaves docudrama and interviews, to present a more humanly image of the prophet.
