Despite long odds and a tough sell to the franchise’s large and loyal fan base, director J.J. Abrams’ reinvigorating reinvention of Captain Kirk, Spock and the origins of the U.S.S.-Enterprise’s crew in 2009 kicked mainstream excitement for Star Trek back into warp drive. However, the series’ momentum soon waned as the much-anticipated follow-up, Star Trek Into Darkness, took four years to complete and was met with mixed reviews and comparably modest success. Now, the franchise’s new director Justin Lin and writers Doug Jung and Simon Pegg (who also plays Scotty) are scrambling to deliver Star Trek 3 (all but officially entitled Star Trek Beyond) in time for the original Star Trek TV show’s 50th anniversary and Paramount’s July 8, 2016 release date.

Star Trek 3 filming at Squamish Boulders in British Columbia

Star Trek fans eager for the next installment, of the re-imagined Star Trek franchise will be pleased to know that production on the next Trek film being directed by Justin Li, has indeed begun production near Vancouver, which is apparently using the working title Washington, and will be filming at the Squamish Boulders beginning today June 25th, and continuing 26, 29, & 30 of this month.
