The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a series built on event movies. And The Avengers are the biggest event movies of the lot. Bringing together all of the disparate heroes from the stand-alone movies (bar the Guardians Of The Galaxy) along with a bunch who only come out of the woodwork for the box office-busting team-ups, the films are the lynchpins of the whole universe, their events having far reaching impacts across the rest of the upcoming slate (which currently goes all the way to 2019).
