The Playlist Review: 'Everly'

The Playlist:
In the quarter century since "Die Hard" was first unleashed on moviegoers worldwide, there have been countless iterations of the same formula, to the point that, for a while at least, it became a whole action movie subgenre. Projects would be pitched (and subsequently produced) with sentences describing the movie as... "Die Hard" on a plane ("Executive Decision," "Passenger 57"), "Die Hard" in a tunnel ("Daylight"), "Die Hard" on a bus ("Speed"), and "Die Hard" in the White House ("White House Down"). The fact that no one's attempted a "Die Hard" with a female heroine seems like some kind of cosmic impossibility, but it's never happened. Until now. With "Everly," the basic "Die Hard" formula is rehashed with a female lead in mind, and the results are surprisingly spectacular. The shtick still works 26 years later.

Everly Trailer – Salma Hayek Goes Into Full-Action Mode

Gambitcon - Just hearing the words Salma Hayek and guns makes me instantly excited. The alwys exquisite looking Salma Hayek stars in the action film which takes place entirely in one room. A gangster finds out that Hayek’s Everly is an informant who turned on him and he sends every killer imaginable after her. That’s it. That’s the plot. Sometimes the easiest plots can be the most entertaining. I am certainly looking forward to seeing Salma Hayek in an action role once again.

If you don’t know what to watch this Friday then look no more. Everly comes out on VOD this Friday, January 23 and hits theaters on February 27.

I don't know about Kate Hudson doing an action movie. I've heard thru all the entertainment shows that she's quite a Diva and is sometimes hard to work with.

That said....I can't wait to see what this is going to entail for her and how much she'll have to use a stunt double. As much as I like Charlize Theron...she didn't like doing the stunt work when she made Aeon Flux. She used a double as much as possible and claimed she was hurting herself too much.

Some just aren't made out for that type of movie.
