Thanks to “Gone Girl,” “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” and “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” Twentieth Century Fox has shattered the global box office record, earning more than $5.5 billion in 2014.
That’s an improvement of more than $350 million from the previous industry benchmark, which was set by Paramount in 2011.
Internationally, Fox grossed $3.73 billion, marking an industry-wide high.
The studio’s domestic arm posted $1.79 billion in receipts. That’s not a record for the movie business, but it is Fox’s best year ever.
