The GCE writes: "With an interesting set up, slick looking production (for this kind of film especially) and fun first five minutes, I had what could only be described as unrealistic hopes for this movie. Well, reality soon set in and The Town That Dreaded Sundown embraced all the slasher and horror clichés with enthusiastic abandon but nothing could save it from its boring script and laughable dialogue."
Denis Murphy writes- If you're someone who's into true crime, you'll know that throughout the bloody history of serial killers, the vast majority of them were caught in the end. Whether they served a life in prison, met their deaths through the legal system or were eventually caught prior to a natural death, it's something of a rarity for a serial killer to have never been found out.
411Mania: The Town That Dreaded Sundown, directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, is essentially both a slick remake of the 1976 original directed by Charles B. Pierce, and a sort of sequel to that movie. I don’t quite understand why it isn’t just one of those things as being both really doesn’t add anything to the movie (it actually makes parts of the plot kind of confusing). If you’re going to remake a movie why not just remake the dang movie? Once you get beyond that bit of weirdness, though, The Town That Dreaded Sundown is well made, scary, and features one of the best casts in slasher movie history.
