Disney Expands the ‘Star Wars’ Galaxy

SAN FRANCISCO—For 35 years, “Star Wars” reflected the vision of one man: George Lucas. There were no development executives at Lucasfilm, no creative committees to shape one of the most iconic creations of American pop culture. There was just “George.”

But since Mr. Lucas sold his eponymous entertainment company to Walt Disney Co. DIS +2.17% in 2012 for $4 billion, he has retired to personal passions, even as Lucasfilm is gearing up to pump out more “Star Wars” material than ever before.
