Not at all. Those guys are super idiots for making money on a fan film. That's just the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. Paramount has every right to crush these guys.
Isn't there a law or something that states that if you make no money it's legal? But as soon as you make profit off of others intellectual properties then your held accountable?
No, it's not that black and white. I don't really know all the details of fair use, but Paramount honestly could have been sued had they made profit or not, but then Paramount would have had to sue all the fan films. But if you do make a profit, they will definitely go after you and you definitely deserve it.
Maybe they should have made a parody or something similar but not directly related. maybe thats the loop hole.
