Good lord I hope this isn't true...if it is, Abrams is just recycling Star Wars through and through.

My problem is then why did they delete the whole expanded universe? Just so they can re tell the stories in a different way?

I think it was because the expanded universe was a load of crap.

What? The legacy of the force stories are infinitely better sounding than the leaked plot. Even the Thrawn trilogy would have been a better choice. Granted very little has been told about the overall story in the spoilers but many Star Wars fans can think up of loads of far better Star Warsy sounding storylines than two random people finding Luke's robotic arm and going on an "adventure"

It seems to me like they are trying a little too hard to recapture the feel of the original trilogy. Out of all the possibilities, out of all the EU stuff they could have explored, they choose two random people setting off on an adventure because they find Luke's arm? That just sounds so lame, I'm crossing my fingers this was deliberately leaked to try and throw people off so that when they actually announce the real story, fans will actually rejoice and be excited for it.
