Not sure about Uncharted/Last of Us films, but we know Ubisoft has direct control over the Assassin's Creed film, and Michael Fassbender himself is producing it, meaning he'll have quality control over the film aswell.

Also, Ubisoft has said that their films wont be adaptations of existing games, but rather chapters of stories set within the universe which I think is a brilliant way to approach a video-game based film

The thing to consider between then (your Resident Evil examples) and now (ones listed above) is the transition the AAA games format has taken since then. There's a closer to marriage to movie sensibilities in regards to storytelling and structure.

Edit: I'm still not gonna hold my breath until I see clear results though.
