Over the last decade, very few genres of film have gotten as much disrespect as the teen romance, both from audiences and filmmakers alike. Every year Hollywood phones it in releasing Nicholas Sparks schlock or a supernatural love story like Twilight, and though a certain demographic eats these movies up (teenage girls), the general public laughs at both the film and the audiences who enjoy these films. Does Hollywood care they are being laughed at? No, absolutely not, they are being laughed at all the way to the bank. Well, with The Fault in Our Stars, the laughing has stopped, as Hollywood has finally churned out a respectable teen romance film. Worth noting: the film has grossed over $200 million worldwide, so maybe you can have your cake and eat it too, or for the viewers of movies like these, have your Cosmopolitan and read it too.
