Avatar is #1? That film suck

aliziabi3572d ago

According to US Box office report Avatar is really on number 1 movie did a business of $760,505,847

Except that its not.

And you really undermine all the work which went into making that film, especially in terms of the visual effects and cgi people.

Yeah, but as Matrix Revolutions proved, you can put as much effort into CGI and the setting you want, but as long as you don't have decent characters, good dialogue or a story that's not insanely cliché, the movie is gonna be pretty lame.

Seriously? Sure a lot of effort went into the CGI, just a shame a lot less went in to the plot/script.

I mean unobtanium is such a lazy name, I can almost hear the conversation. 'We need a name for a mineral that's hard to obtain'.

'I know, unobtainium because you know, it's unobtainable'.

'That's genius'.

My 12 year old nephew could come up with a better name.

Avatar looks like a video game. A very very pretty video game, but fake nonetheless. I prefer practical special effects over CGI any day.

This is how you do special effects:

(animatronics T-rex from Jurassic Park)

Are there any people here who prefer the CGI orcs of The Hobbit films over the practical orcs and Uruk-Hai of the LOTR films?

Inflation Inflation Inflation

If you were to adjust films for inflation this would be a much differently looking list. For starters, Gone With the Wind would have probably grossed more than the next 5 movies combined. It's best to look at actual ticket sales. Interestingly enough ticket sales have been down for the past 4 years, but because of price gouging and 3-D ticket prices the box office receipts have still risen steadily.

I do think it is impressive however that Titanic is still holding down the number 2 spot, even after 15 years.
