Matt Reeves Reveals One Reason JJ Abrams Cast Andy Serkis in ‘Star Wars’

/Film

During my marathon interview with Dawn of the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves, I asked if he had exchanged advice with his childhood friend JJ Abrams on Star Wars, or taken any advice from him for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Reeves admitted that he might be part of the reason Andy Serkis was cast in Star Wars Episode VII.

That's pretty much a given Serkis is playing a mo-cap character right?

Crazay3581d ago

Can't see him doing anything else. There's not a single person in the world that can do Mo Cap the way he does. And The academy better wake the hell up and give this man his well deserved Oscar.

RetrospectRealm3581d ago

I don't think he'll ever get an Oscar for his mo-cap since Oscars seem to be rigged. A lot of people at the TFN forums were saying maybe he is playing a mo-cap character and a human character since he is an amazing actor out of the mo-cap suit too.

iamnsuperman3581d ago

It is a disgrace. He has done some phenomenal and ground breaking work with mo-cap.

I fully agree, I have written about this a few times in these "Planet of the Apes" trailer announcements as well. Give Andy Serkis some recognition, he deserves it.

Crazay3581d ago

You're right - he likely won't get the recognition because they haven't got something for digital performance arts (or some variation of those words) and they don't appear to be in any rush to make one even though MoCap has become so prevalent in today's modern film making.

I think they just haven't figured out how they can properly vote on it? I dunno but they should get on it. This guy is a pioneer in the area and he deserves something. What's sad is they'll likely sit on their hands until he's gone by some tragic accident/illness /old age and then come up with some lifetime achievement award. A waste if you ask me.

AdamBellotto3581d ago

Yeah, they're definitely gonna do the lifetime achievement award in a few decades.

I love how people say no one can do motion-capture work like Andy Serkis. Maybe that's because they don't give anyone else a job to even try.

Crazay3581d ago

There are lots of other people who do it but there's a reason why the biggest movies get Serkis...it's because he is the best there is.

TheHergulaX3580d ago

It's just that Andy Serkis is one of the best...

TheHergulaX3580d ago

You need a reason to cast Andy Serkis? I mean seriously, I'm not even going to read the article because I already know the answer to that.
