As the nation prepares to celebrate the 4th of July, the networks basically stayed on schedule and went for reality last night in primetime. Not everyone had unscripted, but everyone but ABC had new skin in the game. On the fourth episode of the 16th season of Big Brother (1.8/7) it was spelling bee night. Besides bringing us an evolution of the English language with “caltoru,” there was scheming and shuffling for positioning on the vet CBS reality series. There was also a 22% drop from last week, which ties it with Sunday’s episode for the lowest-rated so far this season. Having said that, on a night when America started to turn off its TVs and go into holiday mode and TV usage was down around 4.5% from last week, Big Brother was the highest-rated and the second-most-watched show of the night with 5.61 million tuning in.
