If you were to draw up a list of the biggest icons in film history, Godzilla, that big green-scaled monster that’s been terrorizing cities in Japan and (more recently) America since 1954, would certainly be on it. The last time audiences were treated to a proper Godzilla movie was back in 1998 with the titular Roland Emmerich-directed film which contained some impressive visuals for its time but didn’t fare too well amongst critics and fans. Now Warner Bros. is once again attempting to revive the iconic giant lizard and has recruited some equally iconic Hollywood talent, including seasoned actors Bryan Cranston and Ken Watanabe, to help usher Godzilla into a new era of silver screen stardom. But does this new Godzilla film do the series justice? Or was good ol’ Gojira better off staying extinct?
