Is Ben Affleck Threatening to Quit Batman vs. Superman?

Let’s get one thing clear before we dive in: Ben Affleck has not dropped out of Batman vs. Superman as of this writing. But the situation is taking a turn that suggests Affleck might not be moving into the batcave anytime soon. (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Ben Affleck, Cinema)

Hard to tell

"Don’t be surprised if Warner scraps entirely and fasttracks a sequel to Man of Steel, one more focused on telling a self-contained Superman story that hints at a more expanded universe down the line."

That's stupid. There's too much hype already for this. They won't do that.
adorie  +   744d ago
It would appear that hype for this has turned into pessimism at this point. Heck, I'd even wager that the hype was killed when Affleck was chosen for the role of Batman.
RetrospectRealm  +   744d ago
Still, there isn't one of the pessimists who would really not go and see the film.
I doubt it. Alot of people have come to accept/or at least wait & reserve judgement until they see footage of Affleck. The internet isn't the "OH MAH GAWD WTF AFFLECKZ!!?!" mess it was back when Affleck was announced. There's more Aquaman, Joaquin Pheonix, Batsuit, or Jason Momoa rumors than Affleck hate at this point.

Who wants Stallone to be Batman? Say I! he's as ba(t) as it gets!

That is still up for debate.
Porcelain_Chicken  +   744d ago
Nope it's true. People complained like hell when Bale and Ledger were cast as Batman & Joker respectively. And those movies didn't exactly flop. In fact there's a pretty big list of people who mastered their given role despite the constant fan b$#ching.

Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man
Daniel Craig as James Bond
Anne Hathaway as Catwoman
Hugh Jackman as Wolverine
Christopher Reeve as Superman
Michael Keaton as Batman
Chris Hemsworth as Thor

Just off the top of my head. And each of those movies made bank. Debate over.

^Gotten to.

And yes, Ben Affleck stepping down would be awesome. Gal Gadot stepping down would also be good.

edit - surprise, surprise @ Goyer messing things up.

Jesus what is with you honestly, it's a commenting site just because you aren't seeing something YOU like doesn't mean it's negative.

You take this far too seriously.

God I hope so as well
Wait you guys want the guy responsible for all of the re-writes to Goyer's (most likely) terrible script gone? The guy who brought in Academy award winner Chris Terrio to re-write Goyer probably mediocre script gone? The guy threating WB to leave if they don't get their sh*t together and stop rushing things... The guy who will probably bring in his Academy award winning brother-in-law Joaquin Pheonix as Lex Luthor and finally give the character justice after Gene Hackman, Richard Donner, Kevin Spacey & Bryan Singer took a giant sh*t on him in 5 consecutive movies???...

Why exactly? And don't say it's because he was terrible in Gigli, don't type Daredevil in caps or don't say the oh so generic "i hate his doucheface". Real response please. He seems to bring alot more positives than negatives.

LOL when did Ben Affleck threaten to leave WB??

He is a good director and I guess you can agree with writer (although I think he just surrounds himself with better writters and then says he worked on this masterpiece but to each his own not the point here).

The guy as an actor he is subpar, he is serviceable, he is a great supporting cast member, but he always plays nearly the same character some guy FROM BOSTON, who struggles day to day because not everyone supports him and blah blah blah.

Why would WB go for someone who isn't that big in the big screen like henry cavill only to bring in Ben Afleck, i'll tell you something it most certainly isn't for his acting chops. It's due to the fact that they want people to watch the movie due to the ARGO craze.

There are gritter, manlier, and straight up better actors who could fill the role of Bruce Wayne and ben affleck is simply not one of them.

Cast Karl Urban or Jensen Ackles.

I'd rather see Karl in a Dredd sequel.

Or Josh Brolin...hell why not Jim Caviezel
Hellsvacancy  +   744d ago
Jim Caviezel? finally, someone else that likes him (I assume you do)

He's a very unrated actor in my opinion
Porcelain_Chicken  +   744d ago
I could live with either of those but lets be honest would Caviezel really take the role? And I can't help but feel like Brolin is better suited for Two-face or Black mask. Well maybe just Two-face, Ray Liotta is my fan pick for Black mask.

I actually look forward to Ben Affleck as Batman.

He is a terrific actor and has a very strong film sense.

I dont want another typical Batman batman. If him being there brings something new to the table, I'm all for it.

Goofy faces and blank stares might work for a lot of characters, but not Batman. Ben was a terrible choice.
darklordzor  +   744d ago | Well said
I must have missed all of those goofy faces and blank stares while watching Argo and The Town. Guess I completely missed those during the award winning performances.
SilentNegotiator  +   744d ago
re: Generic Argo and Town retort

You must have missed the other movies that he's been in.
maniacmayhem  +   744d ago
Batman wears a mask, so goofy faces would not be noticed and blank stares is all batman does.

Ben Affleck seems like the perfect choice.
SilentNegotiator  +   744d ago
"blank stares is all batman does"

You've got to be kidding me.

maniacmayhem  +   744d ago
No I am not kidding you. Batman wears a mask, what kind of facial emotions could he portray while wearing a mask?

Batman doesn't laugh, he doesn't cry, he's a machine with one purpose when the costume is on, utter devotion to fighting crime in Gotham city. And he does it without letting emotion get in the way. Why do you think he's such a loner or introvert?
Baka-akaB  +   744d ago
Dude you can convey enough through the eyes , if you are talented enough , , and the 2 good batman actually did so a few times , so that excuse wouldnt fly anyway . It makes little sense anyway , more than half the screen time for Batman in movies , is shared with the Bruce wayne persona .

Finally , i wouldnt be so quickto bring up argo , the town , Dogma etc ... all movies that are either directed or written by Affleck , if not both . So basically you want someone that is only a proven force , in stuff he has control onto , in a production in wich he'd probably have none ? I dont hate the guy , but i'm so sure it's a good casting call there .

I'm under the impression that in the Batman vs Superman story Bruce is already middle-aged.

Michael Fassbender would have been the best choice for Bruce Wayne in my opinion had he not already played Magneto in X-Men.

After Fassbender, Wes Bentley comes to my mind.
Crazay  +   744d ago
Wes Bentley doesn't strike me as looking old enough for the role.
Defectiv3_Detectiv3  +   744d ago
Affleck is somewhere on the level of Val Kilmer(serviceable) but nowhere near as bad as George Clooney. It's not that I hate the idea of that casting choice, but it's definitely a step down from Christian Bale.

The PERFECT response to all this.

The production is a troubled mess. They went in with Batman vs Superman, but Warner has tryed to Backdoor their failed JLA movie into it. They added Wonder Woman, they supposedly have Green Lantern In it, as well as The Flash and so on. They need to make up their minds and make a JLA film if they have a script and if not, do not try to force one in Superman.

They tryed to bring Superman back a few years ago and it did not meet what they wanted. So they started again. They made a film that made money but caused many purists to disown it. On the Marvel side, we see a clear cut plan, good casting choices, and projects that for the most part are well thought out, and part of a larger plan.
listenkids  +   744d ago
Why did "purists" disown it may I ask?
Garethvk  +   744d ago
Many I heard from said they did not like the liberties with the backstory and the violence.
Baka-akaB  +   744d ago
To be fair , they arent exactly wrong , while their knee jerk reactions disservice them . I liked the movie for what it was , but you gotta admit that it was pretty light on the plot , had quite a few flaws and weird choices , but most of all with a Superman with barely any personality , while it made up for it with full on spectacular action .

And to be fair , while the movie should do it on it's own and isnt in the same continuity as previous movies , we've had enough origin and character development in Sup' 1-5 to last a lifetime , and when needed at least one movie to show such tremendeous action with current sfx .

Trash the Batfleck and get Kit Harington!!! That dude is Batman!
BenqMagician  +   744d ago
Just do a Marvel rename it and make it a Justice league movie already. Doing so takes the heat a little off Ben Affleck. Why you want too wait a few more years more too get the ball finally rolling on a Justice League is beyond me.
Hergula  +   744d ago
Nothing has been confirmed... I dont care for rumors, but whatever happens... happens...
maniacmayhem  +   744d ago
I personally think they should scrap the Batman vs Superman and just go with a self contained Superman sequel.
He needs time to establish his character and personality.

Superman needs his time to shine and not be upstaged so soon by all these other heroes in his own movie.

Also it's time to concentrate on a Wonder Woman movie. I have no problem with Gal Gadot being Wonder Woman. Just give me a movie as good as WW's animated movie and I'll be happy.
Genki  +   744d ago
Agreed. He hardly had any character at all in MoS; his acting was limited to stares and grunts for the most part. Nearly every time he shared the screen with another character, however minor, he was upstaged, largely relegated to being little more than a sounding board for their preaching and exposition.

I want to see a Superman with some personality, not a cardboard cutout with a cape. BvS could be good, but they're facing a very steep uphill battle with how they're setting things up.
Crazay  +   744d ago
That's exactly how I feel about it. Superman needs a second feature for film audiences to cheer for him again and THEN cap it off with some sort of cliff hanger with the first look at Batman/Wonderwoman and whoever else. then move into JLA
andron666  +   744d ago
Yeah lets hope so. Can't really see how Affleck is going to be any good as Batman, and I dont' hate the guy, I just don't think hes right for the role...
