From Mexican director Guillermo Del Toro (Pans Labyrinth, Hellboy, Hellboy II: The Golden Army) Pacific Rim, is set in a word where giant monsters dubbed Kaiju (Japanese for monster) have risen from a portal deep beneath the Pacific Ocean and the world bands together and creates giant mechs called Jaegers (German for hunter) to fight the Kaiju. That’s basically all you need to know about the movie, its giant robots fighting giant monsters. The cast includes Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, and Ron Perlman. Not only is it a very entertaining movie, but it’s personally one of my favorite movies of the year. I grew up on Toho’s Godzilla franchise, which this movie is very much inspired by. It’s also inspired by works of anime and other projects that Del Toro grew up with.
