Saoirse Ronan Talks To Us About Joss Whedon And Scarlet Witch

TMS: Considering the secrecy usually surrounding our most anticipated blockbusters, we were happily surprised when director Joss Whedon flat-out admitted Marvel characters Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch would be appearing in the sequel to The Avengers. But there followed a rumor about Irish actress Saoirse Ronan being Whedon’s “prototype” for Scarlet Witch so when we had the opportunity to speak with the actress recently, we just had to ask – would she do it?

I would be alright with the casting choice. I'm not too keen on still using Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver though if they don't have the same names or aren't mutants though.

in all the Avengers comics i've read where they mention or talk to her, they've only ever called her Wanda.

i'll admit i haven't read loads of Avengers books, but i don't think only calling her by her name will be too out of place in an Avengers movie.

anyway, i could see Saoirse in that role.

my only question is how would Wanda and her powers fit in the Avengers universe.

her powers are almost magical, an aspect of the marvel universe they've kind of shied away from in the cinematic universe.

actually i do have another question.
how are they going to explain her and Pietro's powers if the mutant thing is off limits.

i think the annoyance at not using the Scarlet Witch name is going to be a storm in a teacup next to the outrage there'd be if they change the origins of their powers too much.

i couldn't see their powers be the result of some lab experiment gone wrong going down too well.

well, whatever they do, i'll be in line to see the film day one.
