Tom Rizzo writes: "It needs to be said that the marketing for Spring Breakers is without doubt pure, sadistic genius, mostly due to the participation of two well known "Disney-chicks“, as well as that girl from Pretty Little Liars and the always likeable (but slightly demented) James Franco. The title and trailers did their job of putting nubile young posteriors in seats and the posters made sure that those who went in expecting an in-your-face bikini show would get precisely that. Problem is, the so-called "target" audience expected a substantially lighter movie (and probably a very fun and frothy one at that), not a dark and trippy, hard-to-swallow film about the loss – or temporary misplacement – of innocence and the shallowness of today‘s youth culture."
