It did make a profit, it launched several prolific careers, it was innovative for an independent horror film, and would go on to become a cult classic and spawn two more cult classics. Since then The Evil Dead series has begun to fester; there have been toys, video games, comics, and countless home video releases but no new films have been released in over twenty years until some new unlucky victims find a very worrisome book.
