Versatility, thy name is Steven Soderbergh. The filmmaker is about to announce his retirement and with this decision comes a flood of regret. The prolific helmer has presided over a menagerie of misfit films over the years: some great, some not so much, some experimental. Since 1989, the world has seen some filmmakers who chose to be great every time out and some who relegated themselves to garbage, consistently and without prejudice. But few have been quite the level of restlessness as Soderbergh, who treats film with an attitude akin to a caveman discovering fire.
