On top of all these minor problems is a story that doesn’t go far enough to explain any of its characters’ motivations beyond the main antagonist and protagonist. I kept wanting to replace Brolin’s O’Mara with his Llewelyn Moss (No Country for Old Men) character, at least he would have reasonable drive or sensible heroism. After all is said and done the final few minutes of the film will betray you the most with a hamfisted ending to an up-til-then competent crime drama. I seriously enjoyed almost the entire film until Sergeant O’Mara dropped his loaded gun to fist-fight a crooked mobster who just happened to be a former boxing champion. That and the movie ended not more than five minutes after that unrealistic disappointment.
