And heading into 2013, it's still on everyone's mind, even though "Star Wars: Episode 7" isn't due into theaters until 2015. What we know already is that Michael Arndt is writing the script, but the million dollar question remains: who is going to direct? Numerous big names -- J.J. Abrams, Steven Spielberg and more -- have taken themselves out of the race, and another who politely declined the gig was an early fan favorite: Guillermo Del Toro.

I think it would have been interesting to see what he could have done with Star Wars. But I am happy to see he won't. Because I think Disney would not allow him to make the film he wants to make. I do think if he did it though more people would finally see the great stuff he can do.
I myself though would have liked to see in an other universe what he could have done with the Hobbit over Star Wars. As for what he does in the future I hope something with DC Comics. I could see some of the Vertigo comics getting good films from him. I could see the world from Fables & Swamp Thing from him looking real nice.
Guillermo Del Toro? J.J. Abrams? I wish they'd think a little outside the box.
