So you can believe me when I say that I’ve watched a lot of mediocre films. Some of them were movies I had high expectations for, namely because of the filmmakers involved or the subject matter. With Disney moving on to bigger, and much, much more profitable things (hello, "Star Wars"), their pre-Lucasfilm acquisition failure of "John Carter" is something the company is eager to move on from. The notorious 2012 sci-fi flop saw the studio take a $200 million loss in the midst of audience disinterest (it earned $284 million worldwide, on a budget of $250 million, oops) and critical lambasting, and yet, there were a core of fans who tried mightily to rally for more. In fact, one particularly driven group hit the floor of Comic-Con in 2012 to try and collect signatures to urge Disney to keep the flame burning for the Edgar Rice Burroughs property. It didn't work out, but fans of the source material can keep hope alive.
I know that John Carter got a lot of bad press and the critic were not pleased with it. A lot of people didn't like it at all. I myself loved it. I have watched it several times. I went to see it twice at the theater and then bought it when it came out. When we had family movie night I asked if anyone had seen it yet and they all said no so I pulled it out for them to watch it and they all liked it. I was hoping that they would make another but I knew that it was going to be too expensive and probably wouldn't happen.....
