Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Co-Creator Says Michael Bay Film Will Be "Fantastic"

NBC

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans nearly crawled back into their shells this summer when various film blogs began to rumble that the new Michael Bay-produced TMNT film was halting production.

But TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman doesn’t think the foursome's new film will be dead in the water. (Cinema, Kevin Eastman, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)

I don';t think he's necessarily going to "Ruin it"but completely redefine it and I'm not going to be perfectly OK with it.

Michael BAy!
Nooooooooooooo!

MB will ruin the Whole story.....actually there wont be a story, just a 1 hour and 45 minutes of action not tied to a plot!

MB makes great action and Special Efx but he is NO George Lucas.....meaning he cant tell a story worth CRAP!

TMNT is another 80's pop icon about to be ruined by Hollywood and Michael Bay!

I'm ok with watching an hour and 45 minutes of ninja turtles kicking A$$ on screen.

I watched a 22 minute cartoon every saturday morning when I was a kid and there wasn't a whole lot of butt kicking in it.

I say bring on the turtles. Can't wait to see what MB does. However I am a bit pissed that they are no longer mutants but rather aliens. :(

Why do people hate Michael bay so much?
slaton24  +   1012d ago
lets see heres the rumor....i love teenage MUTANT ninja turtles....i dont think changing the whole concept into teenage ALIEN ninja turtles is a good idea. I dont hate him he just needs to keep stuff toward the original ideas or shows not change something major
Crazay  +   1012d ago
You're right - He makes good movies but he can;'t take a piece of pop culture like TMNT and make it TANJ. It just takes away from the essence of what made TMNT awesome.
Crazay  +   1012d ago
It's fashionable to hate on him.
SilentNegotiator  +   1012d ago
No, people just hate things that are over-rated.
Guitardr85  +   1012d ago
@crazay

Lol, it's not even that his films are over rated, it't that he gets so lost in his weighty action sequences that he foregoes plot and good story telling! I know I think its a little distracting when we get a slow motion scene every five seconds because something slightly dramatic happened...

I.e...Open the fridge and the milk is empty...Slow motion depressed look on actors face!!!!
caseh  +   1012d ago
@Guitardr85

Naaaww, its not the slow-mo thing, its the super sliding hero shot which appears at LEAST once in EVERY..SINGLE...MOVIE!

Heres a nice collection of them:

Oh man. I actually sat here for a few minutes, ready to type a tldr response, but I'm just gonna say his movies are completely see-through, flat, and just the epitome of corny action flicks. That, and he destroyed Transformers from the inside-out.

Because Micheal Bays idea of a good movie is always "I Know lets add aliens and blow stuff up!" Thats about the limit of his directing.
maniacmayhem  +   1011d ago
He relies on nothing but explosions and stupid ill placed humor. Take a look at any of his movies and it usually follows the same path.

Take some recent hot model, throw her in some wild explosions a slow motion pan shot and the american flag waiving in the back and boom, Michael Bay production.

He's like Uwe Boll with a bigger budget.
Enigma_2099  +   1012d ago
Eastman... look at the Bayformers movies and OPEN YOUR GOD **** EYES!!!

@Crazay

I especially like how they're doing it for no reason... oh wait.

Bottom line, if he's gonna change so much about the franchise, why did he bother to grab it in the first place? Oh right, to milk that *****.

Why not go back to the original comics and use that for inspiration? Back when Bugs Bunnies friends could smoke a cigar for no reason....I know two entirely different characters and universes here, but thats how TMNT was too before it got all "kid friendly."

Go back to the grungy badarse TMNT and I'll be fine. No outer space crap either....this isn't friggin Transformers!

my name is Raphael and i'm pretty sure i don't wear a skirt around my waist
MetalArcade  +   1012d ago
I don't understand the need to change the story. I mean, the new TV show on Nick is fantastic, and no one has a problem with the mutation thing.
Soldierone  +   1012d ago
I love the show, I know its for kids but geez its a good show lol
MetalArcade  +   1011d ago
It's good enough that I wouldn't consider it just a kid's show :)
MEsoJD  +   1012d ago
ugh... it just leaves a bad taste in your mouth.
aiBreeze  +   1012d ago
Michael Bay is doing a TMNT remake? O dear god, there goes another good childhood memory that's about to go down the drain. Now everyone say cheese for Michael Bay and his crappy shallow storylines.
Captain Qwark 9  +   1012d ago
i dont care what he does with it so long as its good. simple as that, i have seen their original origins 100x over again so its not a big deal to get an alternative take, it could be more interesting even just because its more fresh.

my problem is with bay in general, he completely ruined transformers due to annoying characters and a plot that made little sense. he has potential because prior to transformers i loved his work but since then, mediocre at best ( trans 1/2 ) and at his worst, complete garbage ( trans 3 )
maniacmayhem  +   1011d ago
That's because I'm sure Kevin Eastman got $$$$ somewhere and of course will say the movie is fantastic.
He sold his soul long ago.
rataranian  +   1011d ago
I thought they said this movie was cancelled? Now its back on?
Enigma_2099  +   1011d ago
I'd also like to add, if he cared about the franchise, wouldn't he be just listening to what the original creator says?
kingPoS  +   1007d ago
Ahh Hollywood! Once again fixing what ain't broke.
