Playlist's Review: Lords of Salem

“The Lords of Salem” is probably goth rocker-turned-filmmaker Rob Zombie’s best film, though it does often prove that the cinephile writer/director is a gifted tyro. At the same time, as his most formally mannered and tonally tempered film, Zombie’s latest also proves his versatility. Set in modern-day Salem, Massachusetts, the film follows the seduction of a disc jockey (Sheri Moon Zombie, Rob’s wife), whose family was cursed by a coven of centuries-old witches.

The Lords of Salem | Movies Hate You Too

Nicholas of Movies Hate You Too writes:

A decade ago Rob Zombie’s House of 1000 Corpses was finally released after being shelved for years by its original distributor. To put it mildly I was not impressed, to be blunt I outright hated the film. Since then I've grown to mildly enjoy his other films including the 1000 Corpses’ sequel The Devil’s Rejects and both Halloween sequels. Now Zombie is unleashing his homage to 70’s schlocky witchcraft films with The Lords of Salem and unsurprisingly the results are mixed but not entirely without merit.

I love Rob Zombie and had a very open mind when I watched this movie. I really wanted to like it. It was a complete failure! One of the most pointless movies i've ever seen. So disappointed.

with a lot of negative reviews, the movie has an AVOID sign for those lucky enough to have not wasted their time yet...reminds me of Halloween 2, unpleasant memories of a hot summer afternoon watching a god forsaken movie.

Obviously very kubrick and lynch inspired with noticable nods to the wickerman and eyes wide shut...i say inspired cause i think its a bad attempt to adapt Zombie's directorial career aiming to steer himself part from his more regular slasher/ gore fest...i mean fair play moving over to a better style but develop your own as apose to stealing shots and scenes from the greats of the field...cause as hard as you try you can't copy kubrick
