When Real-Life Tragedy Impacts The Movies

This weekend, moviegoers are getting a horribly titled movie called The Watch. Is it a heist movie about the world's most expensive Rolex? How about an indie film about someone trying to break the world record for most consecutive hours watching television? Or mabye it's a Pulp Fiction prequel following Christopher Walken's unforgettable character who, while in Vietnam, shoves a dead soldier's watch up his ass to keep it out of enemy hands.

Jeff of We Got This Covered wrote, "The Watch is a complete mess from beginning to end with its downfall stemming from a very simple fact: The filmmakers and cast think that this is extremely funny material when in fact it couldn’t be further from it. Most of us at one time or another have sat through movies like this, where the cast looks like they’re having fun on the screen, but the audience couldn’t be more uncomfortable as they squirm in their seats. This is the exact experience one will face should they dare to give The Watch a try."

'The Watch' Blu-ray Review [Cinema Blend]

CB: The Watch had some really exciting marketing. The initial short trailer featuring the four leads in their neighborhood watch attire was the right level of intriguing, and the later marketing, which highlighted Jonah Hill’s abuse to his mother and Richard Ayoade’s sexual desires, certainly left a mark. There are some great moments in The Watch, but there are also more than a fair share of slow moments.
