Ryan Reynolds Is The One For "The Highlander”

Tracking Board says

After roughly a month of negotiations, Ryan Reynolds has officially been cast in the lead role for HIGHLANDER. Reynolds will play Conner MacLeod, a Highlander who discovers he is one of a dwindling group of immortals who wander the earth and kill each other in combat for the final “Prize” – immortality.

The remake is set to be helmed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, who is also in negotiations to rewrite the script. Neal Moritz and Peter Davis will produce the film. (Cinema, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, Neal Moritz, Peter Davis, Ryan Reynolds, The Highlander)

Update Admin note: While the text from Tracking Board does state "immortality", and has been faithfully excerpted here, the Prize is still mortality.

WOAH!!! Thats waaaaaaaaaaay out of left field. I kinda thought the dude who played Ganicus in Spartacus would have been the perfect for for that role.

I think he could do it quite well actually, depends how good his Scottish accent is.
Crazay  +   331d ago
I think he's gonna need some speech coaching though I guess Christopher Lamberts Scotsman's accent wasn't the greatest - but what do you expect from a french actor with a pretty deep french accent?
gaffyh  +   331d ago
Christopher Lambert should play the Spaniard in the remake, now that would be confusing as hell LOL.

haha! hilarious..

I love Ryan Reynolds but for this part...I'm not so sure. It will take a lot of training for that accent.

As long as it's not the typical Ryan Reynolds spin on an otherwise serious role. Green Lantern was ruined by a lot of things - one including his stereotypical half-comedic spin.

exactly what I was thinking
aiBreeze  +   331d ago
Wow that's a serious mismatch. Ryan Reynolds has too much of a baby face to be believable as the highlander.

I agree, i would of preferred Scottish actor Kevin McKidd.

He has the sword fighting stunt experience from the TV series 'Rome' and he comes from Elgin in the Highlands of Scotland.

Could definitely see him playing Macleod.

OMG....please tell me know. I was excited about the Highlander reboot till I just heard this. I had someone more like the guy that played Jaqen H’ghar from the Game of Thrones HBO series....Tom Wlaschiha I think is his name. He would be perfect....accent could be perfectly pulled off and he's got the look down, and the demeanor. It should also be someone relatively unknown. Before Highlander, who even knew who Christopher Lambert was. That also gives them more money to put toward actual film production, sets, and Special Effects. Don't even know if I want to fool with seeing it now.

MY GOD HE WOULD BE AMAZING IN THIS ROLE! That would be absolutely epic!
aiBreeze  +   330d ago
Would love to see him in such a film.. he's one of my favourite characters in the series and definitely someone who deserves a big role.

I'd rather see someone like Russell Crowe
Crazay  +   331d ago
Russell Crowe is an interesting choice but I don't think he's the right choice either.
Lord_Sloth  +   330d ago
Crowe would make a better Kurgan than Connor.

As for Reynolds as Connor...

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOO!!!
FlunkinMonkey  +   330d ago
i would rather stephen hawking than ryan reynolds
gaffyh  +   330d ago
No you wouldn't.
FlunkinMonkey  +   330d ago
is it?! really?! no way!

They don't fight for immorality. They fight for mortality.
Cat  +   330d ago
Yeah, that's kind of a critical error in the text, lol...Sort of misses the whole point.
ifilmufilmweallfilm  +   330d ago
They actually had it right. The Highlanders are fighting for the chance to be "mortal". Sadly, I'm not kidding - I read the script.
Eagles83  +   330d ago
They should have cast Thomas Jane for the role. He looks just like Christopher Lambert and would have been a perfect fit for the role.

no.
