Marvel's superhero extravaganza The Avengers has become the first film to surpass the box office milestone of $200 million in Latin America, making it the region's highest-grossing picture ever.

The Avengers eclipsed James Cameron's Avatar and Titanic, Latin America's previous record holders.

Here in Mexico, the territory's top moviegoing market, the Disney release has raked in more than $60 million after six weeks in theaters; it now stands as Mexico's most successful title ever above Toy Story 3. (Cinema, The Avengers)
