The rumors of Studio Ghibli‘s demise have been flying for a couple years, and intensified when co-founder Hayao Miyazaki announced his retirement from directing feature films. And while the Gibli documentary The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness hasn’t been officially released in the US, one sequence from the film has been floating around over the past week. In that sequence Miyazaki says “the future is clear. It’s going to fall apart. I can already feel it.” But has Studio Ghibli closed already? Nope!
No matter what a badly-translated quote said as it did the internet rounds on Sunday, the studio is still moving forward. Precisely how it will move forward is the question.
Studio Ghibli's The Boy and the Heron from director Hayao Miyazaki has finally been released, and reactions have flood the internet already.
Studio Ghibli bucks Hollywood trends with no trailers or promotional materials for upcoming film How Do You Live?
Japanese animation house Studio Ghibli has been producing films for over 30 years. These are the best Studio Ghibli movies to watch.
I sure hope this is true. I only got into Studio Ghibli last year thanks to Ni No Kuni. Incredible legacy Miyazaki's made for himself, would hate to see it crumble in his lifetime.
Will always have the last films as classics, but what a shame if its to end! :(
This is what happens to the companies that actually pour their sweat, blood, and tears into projects they love, creating art. They fail because not enough people like them. Instead they flock to the big, bland, generic crap like Michael Bay. Sometimes I really hate my fellow man, this is one of those times.
Just think for Studio Ghibli to continue they need someone or "maybe" a group of people who has in a way the same moral mindset as Miyazaki with the ability to progress the studio into the future.
