‘Despicable Me 2′ Huge $200M Global, Big-Budget ‘Lone Ranger’ Disastrous $47M

Deadline: As predicted there were fireworks at the Fourth Of July weekend box office. Friday’s total moviegoing was a scorching $80M headed to $220M through Sunday (+12% from last year) and a new 3-day weekend record for a Fourth Of July holiday. More bad news for Disney’s #2 too-expensive The Lone Ranger (3,904 theaters) which opened disastrously Wednesday, remained weak on Thursday, and did only $10.6M Friday.

The Lone Ranger is just yet another film to have Johnny Depp acting like a clown. I mean it was funny and great in Pirates of the Caribbean (first three films), but now it´s just sad...

Unusual roles is kind of Johnny Depp's thing.

Yes, it is his thing, but lately he has acted in films that require him to act like a clown, as he rarely actually has to "act" anymore. I would like to see him in a serious film.

And the thing is Depp is great in serious films. Donnie Brasco, Whats Eating Gilbert Grape, Blow. He is a great actor.

i loved him in secret window.

Exactly, Depp should focus on serious films for awhile, as we have had enough of the funny Depp, it´s time to get down to business.

I wouldn't say it's 'sad'. Maybe a little old at times though.

Is this a surprise to anyone?
He looks exactly the same from the Pirates movies.

Despicable Me 2 was awesome btw, went with the kids they loved it as did I.

Did you like the first one because I hated it? I wouldn't think the sequel would be any better.

Depp's looks and actions are too similar to his previous role as Captain Jack Sparrow. I never really felt motivated to go to the theater and watch him do the same thing over again in another movie. It seems like a good rental though.
