Universal is celebrating a very happy July Fourth this morning, thanks to Despicable Me 2. The animated sequel earned an estimated $34.3 million on its opening day Wednesday – just a bit under the $35 million that The Amazing Spider-Man took in on its first day in 2012. From its 3,957 locations, Despicable Me 2 is now expected to take in as much as $155 million for its first five days, putting it between the Independence Day records of Transformers: Dark of the Moon ($162.6 million) and Spider-Man 2 ($152.4 million) before adjusting for inflation.
Deadline reports that actor Armie Hammer has now dropped out of another project following the recent cannibalism controversy.
The latest tune to get the floppy drive treatment is Pharrell Williams’ “Happy” from Despicable Me 2, which has been driving sales of the movie’s soundtrack ever since the Oscars. The floppy version takes a bit of time to get accustomed to, but like most of Mr. Solid Snake’s work you’ll definitely be able to hear the resemblance to Williams’ version.

I heard The Lone Ranger sucked
I would have traded Armie Hammer for someone else, but The Lone Ranger is otherwise good. I guess this means there won't be sequels now. This sucks. Hopefully The Lone Ranger has some stamina at the box-office and gathers in plenty of cash over its entire run though. There could still be hope.
