i agree it had to be done. it's not like he can lock him up. this is a world in which as far as we know kryptonite doesn't exist, so it's not like he can subdue him with it. also he doesn't have access to the phantom zone to lock him back in. anyways Zod would have killed millions if not billions if he wouldn't have snapped his neck.

I thought it was the best way to approach it, Zod was not going to stay put at some kind of super prison, or even at the void, he'd find a way to escape again, killing him made Superman look like a total badass

I loved that they did that, normally Superman is such a boring character but this really sets the stage for some amazing stuff to happen. Also, this movie was infinitely better than the last Superman movie. Love that they had the guts to do this.

*spoiler* I agree that it had to be done. No kryptonite and no ridiculous pod in the Fortress of Solitude that takes your powers away (despite you getting them from the earth's environment). All that said, it was a pretty powerful moment.

If this were Batman, i'd say ok throw a shitfit, but honestly who cares. Superman killing some crazy alien asshole killing a ton of people? Go for it.

Kal-El chose.... Wisely. I'm happy this version of a protector will protect us at ANY cost. My problem is how many people died in the destructive fight in mid metropolis that he could of relocated anywhere since Zod was the aggressor.

There was no other way. Zod's wouldn't have stopped because his programmed purpose was to maintain Krypton no matter what.

Now that I think about, wasn't Kal-El all of Krypton since he absorbed the remnants of all Kryptonian Heirs in his cells? So Zod would've been force to protect Kal-El in a way.

They addressed that in the movie - they could have retrieved the codex from Kal's cells if he were dead.

There was no other choice than to kill Zod. How can you stop a rampaging maniac far worst than the Hulk? Supes was lucky that Zod was only getting used to his new powers. If Zod were to became very familiar with his powers he'll sure to hand Supes his own ass like Faora did.

Several comments had it right - in the pre-Crisis DC timeline, Superman had to execute Zod and two other Kryptonians because there was no other alternative. That being said, the killing of the three still haunted Superman for years after the event - even coming up again during the Our Worlds at War story.

While he may not have killed another being since then, it did happen and its had a profound effect of Superman's character.

As for the Injustice: Gods Among Us comment - that was partially influenced by several stories in DC and their Elseworlds line that sees different, alternate worlds Superman doing dastardly and murderous things. That Superman from the One Earth Government world was based of the Crime Syndicate and Justice Lords versions of Superman and are out of continuity versions of the character.

But to the point, I was actually glad that the killing of Zod was recognized by the writers as it has a great effect on his moral character and inspired him to vow to never kill again... to always find another way.
