This could be an amazingly deep sci-fi film of the modern age, which I don't think the 2002 achieved.

Seriously the 2002 movie is an offense to the Solaris story. I know it's from the romance angle but changing Dr Sartorius was a joke and the cybernitian, in the movie he's a lot more mature (or tired/exausted) for that.

i havent seen this movie yet, for some reason i was avoiding it but i still remained curious about the story even more now that i have watched the comparison video, this film might be like other remakes wherein people always favor the the older version like dawn of the dead, straw dogs, king kong etc. but i really have to see both to decide but based on the comparison the older version looks more complex in story as it runs through a 2 hours span while the new version is an hour and a half but the visuals were good.

The Top 10 Science Fiction Movie Remakes Of All Time

Movieline: The Colin Farrell-starring sci-fi remake Total Recall is readying for release this weekend, and while Len Wiseman's adaptation of the 1990 Paul Verhoeven film that mixes up bullets, muscles and abstract notions of Cartesian dualism and the specious present isn't the worst thing in the world, it is hardly memorable. Sometimes, they're damn good, as this list of ten shall prove.

Great Moments in Cinema: Solaris

Chris Olson of Clearance Bin Review writes, "Often, this column tends to focus on moments, scenes, or sequences that serve as a capsule or summation of the larger themes presented in a particular film. However, there is something to be said of moments that stand out simply because they are beautiful, touching, or powerful all on their own. These are the moments that often take our breath away or get our blood pumping, and we get lost in them simply because of how lovely or moving they are. Andrei Tarkovsky was a master at creating sequences like this, mostly because he was totally content to just let his camera linger on stunning images for long stretches at a time, sometimes upwards of five minutes."

Cinematic Soulmates: Solaris and The Fountain

"Joseph Hall once wrote “Death borders upon our birth, and our cradle stands in the grave.” In other words, like it or not, death is an inevitability for all of us. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that death features prominently in popular culture. Countless films, books, poems, and songs feature death as a prominent theme, often in an attempt to make it seem less frightening to the rest of us. There are two films in particular that explore the concept of death with grace and style, and while they share many similarities, they both approach the subject in very different ways."
