Universal Pictures has set Shane Salerno to write the screenplay for Gears Of War, the big-scale live-action adaptation of Microsoft Studios’ iconic Xbox video game franchise.
Keep it animation, as a movie...:) we all know how it ends.
I'm pretty sure they would need to CGI every single human body if Gears would be done in live action.. I just think they won't be able to find any proper actor/actress let alone any living human being which carries those ginormous genes as those in the game.
Then if they would ever decide on full-CGI I would suggest something like those in the CGI-base Starship Troopers Invasion with a mix of Resident Evil Damnation type would be a good design basis.. and simply put all the Gears trademark.
I don't see how it's gonna work. If they're gonna have ultra buff actors, they'll most likely be wrestlers who can't act for shit (other than the rock perhaps). If they get normal actors it wouldn't feel like gears. If they put a lot of over the top action then the story will be shit, and if they focus on the story then the best part of the gears, the monsters, will get less attention.
Best thing to do would be to pick a very specific event from the universe instead of trying to cover a whole military story. Focus on a handful of layered characters, both good and evil, and make it a horror story with short bursts of crazy intense action.
They have to keep it CGI, that way we can expect to see over the top action and I really don't care much in terms of a great story. As long as it sticks the the story line of the game. I mean it's not like the game's story was anything to brag about.
