Never been to big on the fantasy, but Song of Ice and Fire definitely got me interested in the genre. Once the books get finished (fingers crossed) and the t.v. series finishes i would hope that someone figures out how to fit the books into movies... Sadly I don't think it will ever happen.

the Death Gate Cycle is a favorite of mine, characters and setting less of a LotR clone like most other series are

The Sword of Truth series (Wizard’s First Rule) is a brilliant collection of 11 books by Terry Goodkind. Would make a great tv series. Also Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series is a Great choice too, but takes a little longer to get into.

lol sword of truth does have a tv show. its called legend of the seeker. and it was kind of lame.

Really!? oh that sucks. Totally missed that one. I like the Dresden files books too, but they attempted a series of that and it sucked.

My friend says that the a game of thrones is a rip off of the wheel of time..... is this true??

Munky_Mafoo4149d ago

Nah its not a rip off at all. Wheel of time focuses mainly on 2 main character and is basically one long love story. Game of thrones doesn't have one main character and the story's is unpredictable. Only similarity I can think of is the magic, dragons and medieval style universe.

Ness6194149d ago

It is not a ripoff at all. WoT has a lot of magic and a evil beasts and overlords that oppose the good guys. Song of Fire and Ice is (mostly) about different human factions warring against each other and trying to gain power over one another.

@Munky_Mafoo:
ummm WoT only focuses on 2 main characters?? Rand and....who? There are about 6-8 main characters that all get the same amount of mention. Also, love story?? LOL. That is incredibly false. There is almost zero love interest in the book. What series were you reading? Cuz it wasn't Wheel of Time with that description

Always wanted The Talisman by Stephen King.

I heard when I was a kid that Steven Spielberg had bought the rights which was a match made in heaven to me, but I dont know how true that was and nothing ever came of it.

Shame. Great story.

thorstein4150d ago

Black Company would probably translate best to the screen. Fantasy war novels and great ones at that.

The Elenium and The Tamuli by David Eddings.
