"Electro is a great character," Jamie tells ET's Nancy O'Dell when she asks him if he's confirmed to be in the next installment of the blockbuster franchise "I met with the director, Mark Webb, I met with Andrew Garfield, and we talked. … I think Electro will be an exciting character to play because he's a … genius electrician-type person, and he gets the short end of the stick from the whole world, and the next thing you know he turns it on."

BAHHHHHHHHH!!!

I was hoping that wasn't...Praying even and I'm anything but a religious man and now it's come to fruition. This pains me as a fan of comic book movies.

ThichQuangDuck4152d ago

Can you at least explain why? I personally am excited to see Jamie Foxx as a villain. We have not really seen that from him. He is an amazing actor. I am going to have to guess that you mean since Electro is not African American in the comics. I understand this argument if race defines the character like Captain America not being american. In this context however it just comes off as racist the very idea that his race will in anyway affect the story.

Crazay4152d ago

I don't like Jamie Foxx as an actor or the man he is.

Race has a small part to do with it - I can admit that and no I don't race is going to have any adverse effects to the movie but, Let me ask you this for a moment. Ponder this question a few minutes and then respond honestly. Years ago, Marlon Wayons was offered the part of Robin. How would you have liked that?

I would have much preferred to see the likes of Rhino, the Vulture(Foxx may have actually been a decent choice for this character), Carnage or Mysterio (my 2nd favorite bad guy in the Spider-Man comics).

@ Crazay

I will agree that I am nervous about Electro being the main villain if he is. Just due to the fact that I do not see him as being able to carry his own movie. I want a villain that feels understandable and has a bigger plan than the banal revenge plot. Marlon Wayons is not a good actor that is why I would not want him as Robin hood. I could care less if robin hood is any ethnicity what robin hood represents is what matters. That applies to most major franchises for me including black spiderman, black james bond etc. As long as it keeps the themes and ideas who cares the race

Crazay4152d ago

Not Robin Hood dude.. Robin...Batman and Robin... Dick Grayson...

Thatguy-3104152d ago

We have a black president so why wouldn't we have a black comic book villain lol Hopefully he nails it. I'm happy that the guy from chronicles will be coming out as Harry. He's a pretty good actor on the rise.

HeavenlySnipes4152d ago

It's not because he's black, it's because he doesn't look like a marvel villian and I'm unsure if he can act the part. Electro is a pyschotic guy (at least in the ultimate spiderman comics) iunno if Jamie can do it well

shutUpAndTakeMyMoney4152d ago (Edited 4152d ago )

I just want to see a good actor. You must have flipped when they made Bane white?

They choose jamie fox for a good reason I am sure.

Crazay4152d ago (Edited 4152d ago )

To be honest I really didn't care much about Bane's casting. I thought he was a tad on the small side to be playing Bane but also the character himself did very little for me.

You assume it's a race thing and while it may have a small part in my dislike of casting a black man in a white character's role, I personally can't stand the man and am no fan of his body of work.

Soldierone4153d ago

Ugh these recent casting announcements are making me just wish for the reboot......

Crazay4153d ago

HAHHA! A reboot of the reboot? I actually don't mind the casting for Osborne. I think that kid has some talent. Jamie Foxx however - he's a A-hole who I DO NOT want to see in this movie.

Soldierone4153d ago

We all know it will happen eventually. Rather Sony does it, or they eventually give rights back to Marvel.

Third times a charm lol

SilentNegotiator4152d ago (Edited 4152d ago )

Better yet, I want to see Sony lose rights back to Marvel.

In Sony's hands, Spiderman has really become "A BORN LOOOOOOOOSSSEEEERRRRRR!"

cee7734152d ago

"Better yet, I want to see Sony lose rights back to Marvel"

that will never ever happen you think sony will give away on of their most valuable assets away keep dreaming spidey will stay with sony til the end.

SilentNegotiator4152d ago

When did they change the meaning of the word "want" with the meaning of the word "will"?

Because I said "want"

alycakes4153d ago

I don't care for him much either. There are some movies that he's okay in but this is too far fetched for him.

DarkBlood4153d ago

if it wasnt obvious before then its obvious now lol

Deadpool6164153d ago (Edited 4153d ago )

I suppose they're going for the Ultimate Electro look. I'll have to hold judgement until I see a trailer.

Then again, I wonder who he was competing against when they were casting for Electro?

ThichQuangDuck4152d ago

Damian Lewis of Homeland apparently
