What Has Happened To Adam Sandler?

Monster and Monkey:
Adam Sandler was one of the great comedy actors and writers of the late-nineties; setting the benchmark with a string of titles that included both Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore. These were the films that made him a star, generating a huge following for his style of comedy, but as the years have gone-by it seems that the ideas are slowly diminishing, as Sandler continues to scrape the barrel. Has his raw talent and charismatic character creations become tiresome and predictable? Or are we seeing a man whose writing style is maturing with age as he does, with his near-twenty years in the spotlight?

When were Adam Sandler movies ever good? I don't go into an Adam Sandler movie thinking its going to be a 10/10. I go into it for cheap laughs and thrills. The character he portrays usually is pretty similar throughout. Thats his appeal though.

For the people who gave me disagrees. I absolutely love Adam Sandler and his movies but I'm just being honest. Thats just the way I see it. I'm looking forward to Grown Ups 2.

Happy Gilmore was in my opinion his only really good flick. "Happy look out, ehhhhh!!"

You pay to go & see his films?!?

I don't mind when people enjoy 'em, but when Adam Sandler films beats quality films at the box office; that pisses me off.

For example 2011's Jack & Jill grossed more than a $150 Million at the BO, which performed considerably better than the likes of Moneyball, The Artist & The Iron Lady, nearly double that of Tinker Taylor & Drive and 10 times that of genuinely funny films like Cedar Rapids or The Guard.

If you pay to go see Adam Sandler flicks then the studios will sideline other projects to keep making his tripe...

in fairness his films aren't good but they are funny; which will attract more people; now I like a film with a good story but tinker tailer soldier spy got abit boring in places for long periods of time where nothing much was happening; the acting in it was great but it got abit boring. the other films you mentioned i can't say i've seen the others so can't say much about them but adam's films are funny it's just a more basic and immature humour to many other comedys, not quite on the level of say the hangout humour more family friendly (generally speaking) happy gilmore is his best film by miles, don't mess with the zohan was funny but also WTF was what most people in the cinema seemed to be thinking throughout most of the film-well wheneve adam was on screen anyway.

Simple answer is that we liked his style at first, but got bored of it. Very quickly. Now he has gone shit because he is still making the same style of movie over and over again, and he can't act at all.

I understand what you're saying, Sandler doesn't offer you the kind of mental stimulation regarding the plot of his films but the point of the article is that since his early films, they have got worse.

timmyp534171d ago

I didn't say anything about plot.

OneAboveAll4171d ago

It's simple. He got old. Durrr

His movies make me laugh and that's what they are for . not for Oscars or Accolades but to make people laugh and he succeeds . Grown ups Was really funny but much of it has to do with Rob

Lord_Sloth4170d ago

Never liked them to begin with so I guess nothing happened to them.
