The Hunger Games vs Battle Royale, Is The Hunger Games a Rip-Off of Battle Royale?

Best Horror Movies Says: Are you wanting to know if The Hunger Games and Battle Royale are similar, or if The Hunger Games is really just a rip-off of Battle Royale? Read inside and get your questions answered.

If the internet is to be believed, there was only one person on the BHM staff who could possibly review The Hunger Games (review) upon its release this week: myself. The reason for this is because, according to the vast teeming hordes, The Hunger Games is nothing more than a pale “American” imitation, ripoff, and/or remake of the “original” or “better” foreign film, Japan’s Battle Royale

More like a mash up of Logans Run, Series 7, and many others. Not a direct rip off, but heavily inspired by many.

Collins said she was browsing late night tv and said that she was inspired by what she saw as well as news on the war.

You can also see bits and pieces of The Lottery, The Long Walk, The Running Man (the story not the movie), Nineteen Eighty-Four and others. To single out only Battle Royale, which also shares similarities with those stories is a mistake.

When I first heard about HUnger Games I immediatley thought of Battle Royale. How could you not? while the author of this article makes a good point that the story of forced fighting to the death is not a new idea, Hunger Games takes many of the elements of Battle Royale and tweaks them ever so slightly so that they're not exactly the same. big woop. I have no doubt that Collins was familiar with Battle Royale before creating Hunger Games. She is smart to exploit the idea in America where Battle Royale is known, but not to the mainstream audience.

But what Hunger games does better than Battle Royale is that it sets up and describes the dystopian society much better than in Battle Royale. But then again, movie making has come a long way from BR to HG. We can make higher quality visuals now than back in BR's day.

Also, it should be noted that the author of this article is not the best writer. He loads his sentences with too much clutter and he repeats that all throughout the article. Maybe this guy is new to professional writing, but someone needs to tell him he could benefit from a writing class because while he is very good at doing research, the way he presents his view comes off as a babbling fanboy rant overall.

I thought it was more of a condemned rip off.
